Warning: Potential Spoilers Ahead
As you all may remember, I covered the first issue of this trade last year towards the end of December, and now, here we are once again talking about this book. And pretty much towards close to the end of the year as well. Interestingly enough to keep going with the theme of covering this title towards the end of the year, the HKR trade will be out in December with plenty of time still left to pre-order if I’m not mistaken. WOOT! Things weren’t necessarily looking that good when the first issue ended but thankfully there was a light at the end of the tunnel that didn’t necessarily mean the end. We see Artemis re-unite with old friends and then start to get ready for a final confrontation with big daddy Zeus. Essentially leaving very little room to breathe but hey, who needs a side thing happening these days when that kind of thing’s been done to death? Not HKR that’s for sure! Mark does a really good job in showing just how terrible the Greek Gods are as we go along in this story so its no surprise really that Artemis had enough after they took over Earth and enslaved Humanity. Its entirely possible there was already doubts there but the Human who captured her heart managed to finally bring it out.
I’m shocked we never got to see Hera in this as I can only imagine just how she’d be here given what we know about her. Guess Mark had plenty to play with as it is and ol’ Hera would’ve been too much! Perhaps in a sequel we’ll see her and how she reacts to what’s happened by the end of this story? I’d be down! Revenge is not a clean pleasant thing and it can take you to some places, literally in this case where the Land of the Dead is concerned. And ultimately, can screw you over if you’re not careful as we readers see. To be honest, once we see the final confrontation between mother and father, I was expecting Artemis’ boy to be completely loyal to Zeus given how much exposure he’s had to the man so its kind of hard to believe with how he acts where Artemis is concerned.
Sure, the kid’s not super happy in the aftermath but its understandable given the whole situation and it makes me curious as to why Mark went the direction he did where Artemis and her son’s concerned. And if you were expecting this story to be something other than a tragedy in the end? Well…
You clearly haven’t been exposed to enough Greek stories then. Which honestly? It makes me really hope we get a continuation as I’d love to see how and if Artemis is able to get free from the situation she’s unfortunately in by the end of this story. Or if the tragedy will keep on continuing where Marcellus is concerned in one way or another when it comes to saving his mom. And with the defeat of the Gods, exploring how Humanity (especially the boot lickers) handle things without them is something else that would be worth seeing explored in a continuation of this world of Mark’s. So here’s to hoping there’s more and as well as some Hera!
