Chaos! In Comics!
Soooo St. Patrick’s Day has come and I thought it’d be great to do a write up to help celebrate the holiday. Though more so focused on Comic Books that are rather chaotic for one reason or another and the whole thing only perhaps really making any sense in my head but oh well. Of course, dealing with Chaos even requires a bit of Luck so it works either way I suppose! So with that said, lets get Chaotic!
Mad Cave Studios’ Hollywood Trash – Ah, Hollywood! Famous for celebs, sun…and murder cults! The Privy Council is the most exclusive club in town, headed by the entertainment industry’s top mogul, a ruthless exec who enlists his famous underlings to kill the people who stole from him, two local garbage men. James and Billy must survive one epic day of sword fights, forest fires, and giant mechs! At least there’s hazard pay.
When you got two Garbage men suddenly in the crosshairs of a cult for a theft, you know full well there’s gonna be all manner of chaos for these two unfortunate dudes to deal with!
Murder Cult Manufacture’s All Blossom Electric In The City Of Black Miracles Vol. 1 – This is not a tale of hope. There are no heroes. And everyone is awful. 24 villains were responsible for the destruction of earth. This is probably the story of at least 7 of them. The blind samurai who attempts to kill the president. The wizard librarian’s mad pursuit of doomsday. The middle-aged mercenary and her demonic debts. The Moth Monster and its hatred for the human race. The J-Pop Idol with the cannibal appetite. The Doctor who exists in parallel worlds simultaneously.
The suicidal general of hell’s robot legion. These are the absurd series of events that brings all of them into the same city on the same day and how it led to the destruction of that city.
If the title alone doesn’t tell you how crazy this book is, maybe the summary will!
Vault Comics’ Barbaric – Owen the Barbarian has been cursed to do good with what remains of his life. His bloodthirsty weapon, Axe, has become his moral compass with a drinking problem. Together they wander the realm, foredoomed to help any who seek assistance. But there is one thing Owen hates more than a life with rules: Witches.
4 volumes in and this book is still a fun ride for us readers even if Owen wouldn’t think any of it to be fun whatsoever! Especially considering he’s forced to do good when he’d rather be doing anything but that while dealing with a sentient axe that has a drinking problem of all things and its through blood instead of alcohol!
Approbation Comics’ Chaos Campus: Sorority Girls Vs. Zombies – Zombies have taken over the world and the only hope we have for humanity’s survival lies in the hands of three sorority girls – Jamie, Paige, and Brittany! Enjoy the fun side of a zombie apocalypse!
A premise that shouldn’t necessarily work but does as you wouldn’t think sorority girls could kick zombie ass. But 2 volumes in will prove you wrong!
BOOM! Studios’ Fiction Squad – Fablewood is a pretty dangerous place, but no area is more dangerous than the City of Rimes, deep in the heart of the Children’s Realm. After transferring in from the Realm of Mystery, a failed detective from an unfinished prose novel, Frankie Mack, is about to uncover a conspiracy that could unmake storytelling itself. After Humpty Dumpty is pushed to crack and Jack (of Jack and Jill) goes AWOL, Frankie and his partner, Simple Simon, are put on the case.
It was a wild time when this book came out back in 2015! Lots of Jacks and full of laughs as Frankie and Simple Simon deal with all kinds of crazy as they search for who cracked Humpty Dumpty!
Creator’s Edge Press’ JEFF – Everyone’s got problems. Mortgage, car payments, cat barf… but most people don’t get sucked into a parallel dimension against their will at any given moment. The Realm is a savage world filled with witches, ogres, dragons and demons. Jeff, a normal everyday guy, faces peril and death at every turn. At least there’s some busty damsels just waiting to get “saved”… if he survives.
Really, it should be no surprise I would have this on the list given how much I’ve gushed about it over the years.
Big Punch Studios’ Afterlife Inc. – When corporate con-artist Jack Fortune’s life comes to an abrupt and brutal end, he discovers a business opportunity on a previously unimaginable scale. A mysterious Calamity has struck the afterlife, wiping the ruling body from existence and plunging the Empyrean – the great golden city of the dead – into chaos. The time is ripe for modernisation. With the vision, the business-smarts and a ragtag collection of allies behind him, Jack strives to reinvent the afterlife as a modern-day corporate entity.
Establishing a new business is always challenging, but now Jack must balance the demands of a free market with rampaging archangels, a misplaced God and the dark secrets at the heart of their world. This may be the job he was born to die for, but has Jack’s reach finally exceeded his grasp?
When even the Afterlife is chaotic, you know there’s something just not right!
A Wave Blue World’s Crash & Troy – Intergalactic mercenaries Rex “Crash” Ballard (a super strong grumpy mutant) and Troy 3.0 (a sentient software arts aficionado) find themselves in hot water after freeing a ruthless dictator from a maximum-security prison planet. Now, they must clean up their mess or find themselves locked up instead. This means working with a very pissed off Chief Fiona Alvarez of the Earth Defense Forces and a no-nonsense handler named Delphi, which is hard for her because there’s a lot of nonsense on the way. Oh, also, there’s going to be an interplanetary war. No sweat for two “pros” like Crash and Troy!
When its up to two Mercs and their unhappy handler against a weepy/touchy feely dictatorship, you just know we’re all in for a wild ride!
Self-Published/Scout Comics’ Metalshark Bro – A classic shark meets demon, demon transforms shark into a sharkman, shark vows vengeance on demon story. Oh yea…HEAVY METAL forever!
A big jaw bitingly good time!
I could probably go on but with this amount of chaos and a dash of luck, I think its probably for the best if I don’t! Happy St. Patrick’s Day, folks!
